The Shan Nationalities League for Democracy ( English : Shan Nationalities League for Democracy ; Shan : Ngọn Ngọ Tệềọọọọọọọềọọềọọọọọ ; abbreviated SNLD ) is a political party of the Union of Myanmar . The party's political ideology is Shan rights and   a federal system . The party's policy is the establishment of a federal union system practiced in accordance with the democratic system. [1] The current chairman is Khun Tun Oo, the adopted son of Shan State Government Secretary Suwakzon , and the general secretary is Sai Nyunt Lwin.


It was established on October 26, 1988 to serve the benefit of the Shan people. In the 1990 election, it was the second most elected party after the National League for Democracy (NLD). He also opposed the 2010 election and did not participate in the election. The party was re-registered in 2012. After the 2015 general election, the Democratic League of Shan Nationalities Party became the most powerful Shan party in the Union Hluttaw. Branch offices have been opened in most townships in Shan State, Kayah State, Some branches have also been opened in Kachin State and Mandalay Region.


History

On October 26, 1988, the Multi-Party Democratic General Election Commission approved registration number (45). In the 1990 election, he won 23 of the 56 constituencies. Even the National League for Democracy, which won the most constituencies in Myanmar, won only 22 constituencies in Shan State, one less constituency than the SNLD. Sai Hlafe, who was elected from Muse Constituency No. 1, recorded the highest percentage of valid votes in the country with 91.45 percent of votes. Chairman Khun Tun Nai contested in Thipaw Constituency No. 1 and won. The first office of the Democratic League of Shan Nationalities was established at No. (58), first floor Mahabandula Park Road (formerly Bar Road); Kyaukchada Township, It was opened on December 7, 1988 in Yangon.


On January 9, 1993, the National Peace Building Group held a national conference at the Presidential Palace in Yangon . 5 MPs who won the election from SNLD to the National Assembly. A total of 10 people attended, including 5 members of the central leadership of the party. However, the Nawata government's National Assembly did not discuss and resolve the political problem, but only desperately drew up a national constitution of their own accord, and on May 14, 2004, the SNLD withdrew from the National Assembly. As the SNLD withdrew from the National Assembly, there was a significant gap in ethnic group representation. In order to remedy this vacuum, the National Army, which is the influence of the military intelligence group, threatened and coerced the ethnic armed organizations that have achieved peace. Offered and organized by giving opportunities and attracting.


On November 4th and 5th, 2004, the 15th anniversary of peace between the state government and the Shan State Army (SSA) was held at the SSA headquarters in Sein Neng area of ​​Thipa Township, Northern Shan State , with the approval of the relevant regional military commander. Chairman Khun Tun Oo for inviting the SNLD party to attend the event. Secretary Sai Nyunt Lwin, Sai Hla Aung, the members of the Central Committee, Sawtha Oo attended. In that event, they discussed the issue of Shan State Consultative Council formation. Then, on February 7, 2005 (Shan State Day), the Shan State Scholars Consultative Council was established. The day after it was formed, on the early morning of February 8th, SNLD Central Committee members Sai Hla Aung and Saw Tha Oo were arrested by Special Information Forces near Taung Ngu on a passenger bus leaving Taung Gyi for Yangon. On February 9, Khun Tun Oo and Sai Nyunt Lwin were arrested and taken to their respective homes. On November 2, 2005, in addition to the section of the law protecting those who sabotage the National Assembly from disaster, treason, He was sentenced to long prison terms by a secret judgment order in the Insein Special Court for several articles of law such as defamation of the state. In deciding that, Khun Tun Oo was sentenced to 93 years in prison to Puta O Prison in Kachin State and Sai Nyunt Lwin was sentenced to 85 years in Sagaing Children's Prison and Sai Hla Aung was sentenced to 79 years in prison and sent to Kyauk Phyu Prison in Rakhine State. Saw Tha Oo, who acted as a government witness, was released by the government.


The remaining 10 political parties that participated in the 1990 multi-party democratic election must apply to the Election Commission within 60 days if they wish to continue to be established as a political party under the Law No. 4/88 of the National Peace Building Organization Law No. It was announced that if such an application is not made, the political party will automatically be considered null and void. However, the SNLD party did not continue to apply for the right to establish a party, and on September 14, 2010, the Union Election Commission announced the cancellation of its registration as a political party with Announcement No. (97/2010).


After the new government took office, the SNLD leaders were released on January 13, 2012, by the president's amnesty order. After the release of the SNLD leaders, a meeting held on January 20, 2012 decided to reinstate the SNLD party as an official party. After that decision, Khun Tun Oo as the first leader along with the list of 15 people who want to establish the party. Sai Nyunt Lwin was chosen as the second leader and registered with the Union Election Commission on March 16, 2012. The Union Election Commission replied that the Shan Nationalities Democratic League Party was approved with party registration number (56) dated June 12, 2012. The party headquarters of the Democratic League of Shan Nationalities, Yangon Maungone Township, Ward (5), Corner of Komai Pyay Road and Sow Phai Road, No. (26) was opened and the party headquarters banner presentation ceremony was held on August 15, 2012.
